What is Botox?
Many facial wrinkles are due to strong muscle activity during facial expression. These muscles are connected directly to the skin and facial movement causes the muscles to pull on the skin and cause wrinkling. Botulinum toxin (aka Botox) works by temporarily weakening the muscles and eliminating the wrinkles. Botulinum toxin is also useful for excessive sweating (hyperhydrosis) and improving the quality and texture of the skin.
The 4 major brands of botulinum toxin are: Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, and Jeuveau. Each works the same way and have small differences in the time it takes to start working and how long it lasts. Providers tend to have their favorite product but good results are achievable with any of the 4 brands.
Why Choose Botox with Dr. Lozada?
If you don’t want more fine lines and wrinkles on your face and desire a quick office-based procedure with no downtime, then Botox is a fantastic option. Areas typically treated include the glabella (11’s or furrow), crows feet (smile lines), forehead, and perioral area. Botox can help the visibility of current lines and also reduce the formation of future wrinkles with ongoing use, particularly when started at a young age. Botulinum toxin can also be injected into the armpits and/or palms to help reduce sweating.
What is Painless Botox with Dr. Lozada?
Get the beauty of Botox with more comfortable injections! Dr. Lozada uses a proprietary topical numbing liquid that was formulated by his father, Dr. Guido Lozada, over 20 years ago. Placing a small amount on the skin numbs the area and can make the injections nearly painless. Occasionally, thick skinned patient’s will not be completely numb but still have a much more comfortable treatment compared to other methods. While many providers use a topical numbing cream, this does not effectively anesthetize the area and leaves many patients gritting their teeth through the injections. Vibration devices can be effective, but they do not work well on every patient. Dr. Lozada believes that Botox should not be painful or anxiety provoking for the patient. If you have experienced painful or uncomfortable injections in the past, call our office to schedule a consultation to experience a painless procedure.
How long does it take Botox to work & how long does it last?
Typically botulinum toxin begins working a few days to a week after injection. Peak effect can be between 1-2 weeks after injection. Depending on the product used (Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, Jeuveau) the effect may start slightly sooner than others. Results typically last around 3-6 months.

FAQs About Botox Treatment
Botox has been used in the medical field for over 25 years. It has an excellent safety profile and has numerous indications for its use.
Botox is widely available from medspas to doctors offices these days. However, one should seek an expert in facial muscle anatomy to ensure the most natural results possible. By seeking out a facial plastic surgeon, you ensure you are receiving the highest quality results possible.
Every bottle must be diluted with saline to give an effective dose. If you dilute too much, you will end up delivering too small a dose to the muscle. Patient’s must be wary that when bargain hunting for the best price, they run the risk of receiving very dilute botox that may not last as long or not work at all. Seeing a qualified facial plastic surgeon ensures a proper dose of Botox is given to each area to maximize results.
