What is Kybella?
Kybella is the only FDA approved minimally invasive treatment of the unwanted fat below the chin (submental fullness). Kybella is derived from a natural enzyme in the body that breaks down fat. This purified product is then injected into areas of excess fat and it works to dissolve this fat away. Kybella is mainly used in the double chin but has been used in other areas of the body to help remove stubborn areas of fullness where diet and exercise were unable to work.
How does the Kybella treatment work?
During the treatment, Dr. Lozada make facial markings of the area ensuring the procedure is targeting only the stubborn under chin fat. Kybella is then drawn into syringes and injected in multiple spots directly into the fat. With this, Kybella works immediately destroying fat cells, and thus swelling begins right after the procedure is finished.
Treatment sessions without any form of anesthesia can be uncomfortable. However, Dr. Lozada routinely uses numbing injections prior to Kybella injection which makes the entire experience painless and comfortable.
Good candidate for Kybella are men and women over 21 who are healthy, not allergic to the active ingredients in the formula (deoxycholic acid) and have realistic aesthetic goals.
What is the Recovery like for Kybella?
Welling and inflammation is expected immediately after Kybella is injected. This is caused by the destruction of fat cells in the treatment area. While there is minimal to no bruising, the swelling can last for 1-2 weeks.
It is important that patients understand this part of the recovery process. However, once the swelling goes down, patient’s are left with a more defined under chin area. Please call and book your consultation if you’re interested in learning more!
