The procedure is usually done by inserting an implant made of silicone or other materials into the chin area, which can be customized to fit each patient's individual needs
Sometimes a subtle augmentation of the chin/jawline can make a dramatic difference

What is Chin Augmentation Surgery?

We use a synthetic silicone implant placed directly over the bone to provide augmentation and definition. A small incision is made underneath the chin inside a natural crease that effectively hides the scar. The tight layer over the bone called the periosteum, is elevated with special elevators. The chin implant is then placed into this pocket and held in place by the periosteum. The incision is closed with permanent sutures.

Am I a Candidate for a Chin Implant?

When discussing the lower third of the face, the jawline and chin are two very important structures that provide balance and symmetry to the facial features. When there is no facial balance, it can negatively enhance other facial structures including the nose and neck. This is also why chin implants are frequently combined with other facial procedures including rhinoplasty, neck liposuction, or a neck lift. Sometimes a subtle augmentation of the chin/jawline can make a dramatic difference and put the entire face in harmony.

Is Chin Augmentation Surgery a Viable Option for Me?

A chin implant is a viable procedure for patients of all ages. It can improve the appearance of a less flattering neck angle and create a more balanced look if the nose appears disproportionate to the chin.

Using 3D photography and morphing software Dr. Lozada can demonstrate the effects of chin implants directly with the patient. During the chin augmentation consultation, you should ask about your concerns and explain your aesthetic goals.

Chin implants can also improve the overall proportions of the face
Chin implants can reduce the appearance of wrinkles and folds in the lower area of the face

TESTIMONIALS

I went to Dr. Lozada for chin filler and couldn’t be happier with the outcome! I didn’t know what to expect and was super nervous but he was incredible and made me feel so comfortable. The results were even better than I imagined and I felt like my features are so much more balanced and proportional now. He even checked in later that day to make sure everything was ok. A great experience all around!

Chin Implant Surgery FAQs

What is Non-surgical chin augmentation?

Chin augmentation can be achieved using temporary injectables including Restylane, Radiesse, and Juvaderm. These products are placed deep on the bone to provide augmentation similar to a chin implant procedure. The results are immediate, require less preparation from the patient, and can last up to one year.

Can other surgical procedures be combined with chin augmentation?

Commonly, chin implants are part of combined surgery, especially rhinoplasty. Creating a balance between the nose and chin allows for the most beautiful and natural-looking results for the patient. Chin surgery can also be done during neck liposuction or a neck lift.

Is chin implant surgery painful?

Chin implant surgery is generally well-tolerated. Local or general anesthesia is used during the procedure to minimize discomfort. After surgery, mild swelling or discomfort may occur, but it can be managed with pain relievers.

How long is recovery after a chin implant?

Recovery typically takes about one to two weeks. Swelling and bruising are common in the first few days, but most patients can return to normal activities within a week, with full healing in a few months.

Is a chin implant better than dermal fillers?

Chin implants provide a permanent solution to enhance chin structure, while dermal fillers offer a temporary and non-surgical option. Implants are ideal for long-term correction, whereas fillers are best for subtle or short-term enhancements.
